June 11th was my younger sister's 26th birthday. In honor of her making it through another year I decided to bake her a cake (but of course). I fell in love with the anemone flower and decided that it was perfect for her cake. I found an awesome tutorial on YouTube and was ready to work! My first attempt at the flower was a flop, but the second was pretty nice.
With the flower down, I only had the cake to go. I wanted to do something pretty and mature, but not too mature. My sister is probably 5 feet at best and closer to 90 pounds than 100 so a delicate cake felt like the best bet. I searched the web for a few days trying to find just the right cake when the idea hit me all of a sudden...
With a little help from a friend, I finished the cake and surprised my sister. Her favorite cake is red velvet, but since it's so very hot in Houston (101 degrees on her birthday) I decided to go with a safer, more stable Golden Vanilla cake with my personal buttercream icing covered with Duff's fondant. The flower is completely gumpaste and all the decorations including the flower border is made of fondant.
This is the side view of the cake. I added a flower border to tie the anemone flower with the rest of the decorations.
All the branches are hand made and the flower border is made from a Wilton's silicone mold.
Happy Caking!

Happy Valentine's Day!
One of my daughter's favorite people in the world is her great grandmother. When they are together everything she does is right and Granny never sees any wrong. She's the queen of the castle and Granny is her happy and willing servant. Since Granny is such a loving and wonderful person I decided that Taylor should give her a Valentine's Day present in the form of cake (my favorite and Granny's too). So I created a simple but sweet V-Day cake featuring layered hearts since they love each other so much. I hand made chocolate covered strawberries and figured it would be perfect for a splash of color on this tempting little black and white cutie. Sorry for the colorful background...I took the picture in a rush.
